Simply Me
It's been a gift to have stayed home with my 3 children for the last 16 years - a gift for which I am so thankful. I've poured my passion into mothering, but like many other women, I have another great passion that now deserves nurturing.
Health and wellness have been a top priority for me as has being fit. A look back into my childhood reveals the genesis of this attitude toward health. I recall a day when I said to my friend, "Hey, do you want to go for a run around the block?" Before my friend could answer, her mom stepped in and blurted, "Why would you want to go out for a run? Don't you have better things to do?" Even as a pre-teen, I was incredulous at this attitude. What could be more important than exercise? I went running by myself and, although at the time I didn't understand the physiology of it, I knew it felt good, important, and even necessary. I now know that this feeling comes from adrenaline, but it's so much more. For me, the exercise was just the beginning of my passion for my own health as well as the strong desire to encourage others to jump on board and take the ride.
I knew that day that I never wanted the feeling to end.
Fast foward to age 35, when my own health journey began. My seasonal allergies were getting worse, I had teeth problems, and I was irritable with my own family. I knew I was spiraling when mornings in my home began and ended with anger. I realized then that my children may remember me later as "crabby mommy" and I didn't want that to happen. What I learned from that journey continues to be invaluable. When I finally got a grip on a cleaner eating style, cared for my body with exericse, sleep and "me" time, I was becoming a better mom and a better person. I had the knowledge to care for myself and my family with healing foods. I had less headaches, was sleeping better, and was able to focus more on being there for my children and handling the stressful moments in our lives.
We are a culture of "jugglers". Daily we have to sift through the giant "To Do List" of our lives. Additionally, our country is filled with undernourished and underfed children, along with an increase in disease among adults and children alike.
I now have a vast knowledge of food and its healing power. I know how the intake of certain foods can affect each and every part of our bodies functioning. Because of this increased information and my own personal health journey, I have a mammoth desire to share with each person I meet. I honestly believe that, through this knowledge and power, I can make a difference in the lives of others by supporting them step by step on the journey to a better understanding of how we can help ourselves.
Each time we learn something new to help our body, we can pass on important information to our children, share it with our aging parents, and bring a little peace into our hearts. We can make our bodies healthier and live a more energetic and richer life with our family.
